WARFARE
377
I 2 Bright youth and snow-crowned age, Strong men and maidens meek, Raise high your free, exulting song, God's wondrous praises speak.
3  With all the angel choirs,
With all the saints on earth, Pour out the strains of joy and bliss, True rapture, noblest mirth!
4  Yes, on through life's long path,
Still chanting as ye go; From youth to age, by night and day, In gladness and in woe.
5  Still lift your standard high,
Still march in firm array; As warriors through the darkness toil Till dawns the golden day.
6  At last the march shall end,
The wearied ones shall rest, The pilgrims find their Father's house, Jerusalem the blest.
7  Then on, ye pure in heart,
Rejoice, give thanks, and sing; , Your glorious banner wave on high, The cross of Christ your King.
Rev. Edward H. Plumptre, 1865
(CHRISTMAS) C. M. J2 A cloud of witnesses around Hold thee in full survey: Forget the steps already trod, And onward urge thy way.
'3 'Tis God's all-animating voice That calls thee from on high; 'Tis His own hand presents the prize To thine aspiring eye:
4  That prize with peerless glories bright,
Which shall new luster boast, When victors' wreaths and monarchs' gems Shall blend in common dust.
5   Blest Saviour, introduced by Thee,
Have I my race begun; And, crowned with victory, at Thy feet I'll lay my honors down.
Rev. Philip Doddridge, 1753
